CHAPTER OPERATIONS
Generally, local chapters operate independently and may choose how to structure their nomination and selection of new members, local dues, and logistics of tapping and initiation. The sections below detail the answers to commonly asked questions and outlines the reporting requirements to the National Office.
RHO LAMBDA’S ROLE ON A CAMPUS
Each local chapter is flexible in defining their purpose and need for their campus. Ultimately, Rho Lambda can serve as a vehicle to empower all sorority women from the various councils to come together. For some campuses it serves as a recognition society only, but for others there are many opportunities for women’s empowerment events, networking, professional development and much more that can be experienced through programming efforts. The National Office is available to set up conference calls with local chapters to further explore how best to serve the individual campus community.
REQUIREMENTS TO REMAIN ACTIVE
The only requirement to remain active with the National Office is the submission of a New Member Initiation Report at least once per academic year. There are no annual chapter dues, only a $15 initiation fee per new member initiated.
TRANSITIONING NEW OFFICERS
As a new set of officers are elected, it is important to properly transition them. The first priority is for the new officers to understand how the local chapter operates which is unique to each chapter. Afterwards, the National Office recommends giving the new officers an electronic copy of this handbook so that they are aware of the basic chapter responsibilities and how to communicate with the National Office.
